Carnivorous Rats
Alethinosuncus
This large predatory rat hunts birds and
bats, which it is quite capable of
capturing on the wing. They also hunt
other smaller game.
Arpacticomus
This is a heavy-built predator. The
large muzzle covers huge incisors that
are capable of tearing into large
gigantelope hides. This is a forest
predator and the coloring provides
effective camoflauge.
Messisomys
This is a medium-sized, rather wolf-like
rat of the Metazoic. They live in large
groups, which allows them to bring
down almost any sized prey.
Tromerodon
This is a huge hunting rat, that hunts in
small groups on the plains. in these
groups, they can bring down prey of
any size, including large gigantelopes.
Nycteridomys
This carnivorous rat hunts in the trees for
birds and bats as they fly in to perch on a
branch. They can also use their claws and
capture these creatures in flight.
These rats have specialized adaptations of rodent
incisors. The edges of the elongated incisors have
long sharp points, useful for piercing their prey. They
kill by biting the prey just right until it bleeds to death.
The claws are long and sharp for grasping. Some can
take on quite large prey.
